Former Inter Milan star Jurgen Klinsmann believes the Nerazzurri have a strong squad at their disposal and they can offer a serious challenge to Juventus for the Serie A crown. The Nerazzurri made the perfect beginning to the campaign with six victories on the bounce but the streak came to an end last weekend as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Bianconeri.
Speaking on Sport Mediaset, Klinsmann acknowledged that the reigning champions have the squad with the better depth but feels the Nerazzurri can end the Bianconeri’s eight-year league dominance, he told: “I think Inter have a pretty strong squad, they could win the title despite Juventus being there. Let’s hope it is the year of the Nerazzurri. I really think that Inter can be the anti Juve all the way. The Bianconeri have a deeper squad, but you never know what can happen. I do not think there will be psychological repercussions after the San Siro defeat because the season has only just begun.”
Inter appeared on course to secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Bianconeri last weekend but that was not meant to be after Gonzalo Higuain came off the bench to score an 80th-minute winner. As such, they are currently one point behind the Serie A holders on the table but manager Antonio Conte will be hoping that the team can stay focused and continue to put the pressure on the Bianconeri with regular victories.
The San Siro outfit are scheduled to face Sassuolo away from home next weekend. Juventus will be in league action against Bologna before Conte’s men and a victory during that contest should put the pressure on Inter to register maximum points at the Mapei Stadium. Sassuolo have proved a bogey club for Inter over the years and they have beaten them in four of the previous five league meetings with the other game ending in a draw.
