Italian football side Napoli have offered first choice goalkeeper David Ospina a new deal. This is according to Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. It was revealed that Colombian senior national team shot stopper Ospinahas been given a new deal to ensure that he commits his future to the Italian Serie A leaders and also prevent him from leaving Napoli on a free transfer when his current deal expires next summer.
The idea was for Ospina to make way for Alex Meret at Napoli after a period of acting as his mentor, but new manager Luciano Spalletti has counted on the Colombian as his first choice this season. Spalletti has led Italian football outfit Napoli to the top of the table on the Serie A standings in the opening months of his managerial tenure at the club. Napoli and AC Milan have the same number of points after 12 games this season, but the former has a better goal difference. Napoli appointed the aforementioned Spallettias the replacement for GennaroGattuso who left the club at the end of his contract in the summer.
Italian shot stopper Meret has not made progress as expected at Napoli as there are still concerns if he would be able to take the number one spot in the Napoli goal for the long-term.
Italian football expert Di Marzio said that Napoli have offered the representatives of Ospina a new deal as they attempt to ward off the interest of Lazio. The 33-year-old is a target for Lazio who see him as the replacement for the ageing Pepe Reina.
